OS CLUB PILGRIMAGE TO GALLIPOLI

On Monday 26th October we assembled at Terminal 5 at Heathrow in order to catch the 9.35 am flight to Istanbul.  Our party (numbering 28) comprised of  OSs, a former master and two parents. Our primary objective was to visit the graves of, and memorials to, the 27 Sedberghians whose remains lie on the Gallipoli peninsula, and to conduct a Service of Commemoration and Remembrance at the Helles Memorial.  Also individual acts of Remembrance in the cemeteries where there are graves of OSs. SEDBERGH SCHOOL REMEMBER THE FALLEN

More than 550 pupils, staff and Old Sedberghians met on Sunday morning for a poignant Service of Remembrance, held around the School’s Victoria Cross Memorial. Colonel Mark Kenyon from the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment attended and members of the Combined Cadet Force, who are badged to the same regiment, gave a salute. Sarah Long (R), 15, from Brampton, played the Last Post and Reveille in challenging weather conditions and Head of School John Campbell (SH), 17, from Lincolnshire, read from the Gospel of St Matthew 5: 1-12.
