SEDBERGH SCHOOL CAREER EVENT

The Next Steps Show On Thursday 10th March the OS Club will be combining with the school for the first time to host The Next Steps Show Career’s Fair on Thursday the 10th March at Sedbergh. The school has run the event before but the Old Sedberghian Club is passionate about getting more heavily involved in the running of the event this year and annually in the future. On Saturday 12th March 2016 from 9 am until 12 noon Casterton, Sedbergh Preparatory School will be hosting an Open Day. OS GOLF SOCIETY 2016

THE 2016 TOUR Detailed planning has started for the 2016 tour to the north west and this time there is the added attraction of being able to combine the midweek golf with a 1525 Society Lunch and the grand opening of the refurbished Pepperpot on the Saturday! The School has requested that the match against them is played on Thursday 12th May and Lancaster GC has agreed the availability of the course. Lent term is the season of running here in Sedbergh and will close as it always does with the Ten Mile. The opportunities offered by the dedicated and highly skilled staff as well as the beautiful natural environment surrounding the school, have fostered a love of running in generations of Sedberghians. OS CHARLIE MOORBY VOLUNTEERING IN AFRICA

OS Charlie Moorby is currently volunteering in Africa with Bhubesi Pride. The trip has started in Kenya before they move on through Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia and Botswana, ending the trip in Namibia. The first week was spent training in Nairobi but on Sunday they ran their first event, an under 17’s rugby tournament at KCA University in Kenya. The attached picture was taken at this event. OS ALISTAIR BIGGAR (S 60-64), SCOTLAND & LIONS WINGER, DIES AGED 69

Alistair Gourlay Biggar, from Dalbeattie in Kirkcudbrightshire, though born in Edinburgh, entered Sedgwick House, Sedbergh in 1960 from St Mary’s Prep School, Melrose, and remained a lifelong Melrose supporter. His cousin, Mike Biggar (S63-68), arrived at Sedbergh also from St Mary’s in 1963 and went on to gain his Blue at Cambridge University, and play for and captain London Scottish and Scotland. Alastair came with strong rugby genes, his father Ken, also a Sedberghian, was in Sedgwick House (33-37), playing on the unbeaten 1936 XV as a strong running centre who later played in the Scottish Inter City matches.
