We have just arranged a triangular match with the Old Lorettonians and Old Alleynians (Dulwich) on Saturday 20 May at New Zealand Golf Club. New Zealand is a lovely and highly rated course near to Woking, Surrey (http://www.top100golfcourses.com/golf-course/new-zealand) and it promises to be a very good day. On Monday 10th April Lupton pitches had a special guest grace its turf as HRH Prince Charles used the field as landing pad for his royal helicopter. It was part of his Royal tour of Cumbria which took place on Monday and Tuesday. He had been staying locally and graciously took the time to meet people from the school and town on his arrival before flying over to BAE Systems in Barrow. It was a fantastic spectacle and we hope to see him back in Sedbergh again soon.
In March OS Lieutenant General (Retired) Sir Andrew Gregory was appointed as Master Gunner of St James’s Park. The Master Gunner, St James’s Park is the ceremonial head of the Royal Regiment of Artillery and channel of communication between the Regiment and the Captain General (Queen Elizabeth II). The appointment of Master Gunner, St James’s is held by a distinguished Royal Artillery Officer selected by the Queen in her capacity as Captain General, on the advice of the Colonels Commandant of the regiment and has honorary status over all other Commonwealth Artilleries. Some things come around with quite alarming regularity. A reminder, if one were needed, that the years are ticking by. There is of course the Boat Race in the south and we have our very own Wilson Run in the north. The Wilson Run has become a major event for members of our illustrious Club. The annual dinner, held in honour of this auspicious race, has itself become a celebration, not only of the race, but also of our friendship and our heritage.
