Crossing Generations and Continents

A recent email from an Old Sedberghian after our reunion dinner in the House of Commons prompts me to reflect on the shared Sedbergh experience which crosses generations. OS Dinner at the House of Commons

170 Old Sedberghians, parents past and present, staff and friends gathered at the House of Commons on Friday 17th November. After a guided tour of the Parliament buildings guests enjoyed a drinks reception and 3 course dinner in the Members Dining Room. There was a wide age range of Old Sedberghians who attended the event ranging from 18 years old to 87 years old, with a great number of Old Girls as well as Boys. OS Support Needed With Career Internships and Career Advice

The new Careers department was launched this September with a focus on setting up a programme that drives every pupil forward towards the absolutely right decision on where the next stage in their life will be. Pupils will be helped to identify the skills and qualifications needed to achieve their career goals and will be supported through mentoring, internship placements and work placements. OS Girls Hockey Success

OS Girls Hockey Team are runners up in their first Alumni Schools Hockey Tournament. On Sunday 22nd October the OS Girls took part in their first ever Alumni Schools hockey tournament, the Dean Close Sixes at Dean Close School in Cheltenham. The team consisted of Emilia Tyser (L 12-16) (captain), Emma Wood (R 06-08), Maddy George (R 09-14), Becky Glen (07-12), Ellie Kerr (R 05-10), Ellie Thompson (C13-14) Katharine Blair (L 06-11) and Kayleigh Debil (L 03-08). Congratulations to Charlotte Preston (R 12-17) who has just cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats with her father to raise money for Cancer Research and MacMillan Cancer. They covered over 900 miles in 9 days (a day quicker than planned)! Michael Leahy (P 00-04) was selected to represent England as a referee at the FIL Men’s Lacrosse World Championships held in Israel. Mike Grundy (W 52-57) will appear on Countdown on 29th August. Queen’s birthday honours Andrew Gilliat (P 52-56) was awarded with a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to the community of Shobdon. Queen’s New Year’s Honours OBE awarded...
