OS CLUB INFLUENTIAL IN THE CREATION OF NEW TALENT RECRUITMENT CONCEPT FOR STUDENTS AND ALUMNI

Innovation in careers education is vital for schools, ensuring that beyond academic, musical or sporting life pupils will be set up to carve the futures they aspire to. With this in mind, former Director of Sport at Durham School Ben Mason launched globalbridge in 2016. Here he explains why Sedbergh School’s involvement from the beginning has been so influential.

Globalbridge is a one of a kind product in education. It often takes innovative schools to lead the charge with new ideas, and I am pleased to say Sedbergh School were in from the start. It has been designed to give students  an opportunity to showcase their talents by creating a multi-media digital CV in a safe online educational environment, which reflects the contemporary world they live in. This can be used to engage with and access future universities and employers. Students are no longer limited to the 4,000 characters and list of grades on a UCAS application; their globalbridge profile now complements this process. For the university, employer or recruiter, they can now search an educationally focused database of school leavers and university graduates, based on anything from predicted subject grade, career aspiration, musical instrument or grade, even sport, position and standard, to ensure they are recruiting the right student or employee.
Having only launched in October 2016, the feedback we are receiving from the increasing number of schools, universities and employers we have signing up to the platform, is that globalbridge adds huge value to a school’s ability to develop employability skills and opportunities for its students. From developing the foundations of a digital CV in Year 7 to accessing university opportunities or sponsored graduate opportunities and higher apprenticeships, the bridge platform gives members an advantage as they progress through and beyond school.

Sedbergh School Alumni Director and OS (Powell House 97-02) Ben Collins explains why working with globalbridge is creating opportunities for Sedbergh leavers. I have been incredibly impressed with the opportunities and exposure this platform gives our pupils. Within 24 hours of loading our first pupil profile live on the website we were contacted with several potential offers from that individual’s preferred university choices. This is extremely exciting for the school going forward. The opportunity for the pupil to be headhunted by highlighting their academic grades, skill set, extracurricular activities and personal sporting achievements on a secure page with media options is simply brilliant. We are really looking forward to working with globalbridge in the future and would thoroughly recommend the company to any organisation looking to give pupils a unique pathway to university or employment.
