Last night OS Will Carling (W 79-84) and former England rugby captain came to Casterton Sedbergh Prep school with his wife Lisa to give a talk to young pupils and invited guests.
Will spoke fondly of his time at the school and remarked that the two teams he enjoyed playing for the most were Sedbergh and England.
He gave a fantastic speech about his playing career both for Sedbergh and England and plenty of motivational advice for young ears. The audience had the opportunity to ask questions afterwards which was then followed by a delicious three course dinner in the school dining hall.
Will generously asked that some of the nights takings were donated to MENCAP in honour of Cressbrookian Matthew Coe and to the Cosby Stephen Church in honour of Ian Mullins. Various signed memorabilia were also auctioned off to raise money for these two charities.
It was brilliant having Will back at Sedbergh and a great opportunity for the pupils as Will was very approachable and spent a large amount of time talking to them individually. It was a truly memorable evening that I’m sure will have a long lasting impact on the young Sedberghians.
The evening was organised by Dr Phil Hoskin as part of the Cressbrook House lecture programme.
We look forward to seeing Will back at Sedbergh soon.
