GALA DINNER AT DRAPERS’ HALL – NOW SOLD OUT


The Foundation and the OS Club are hosting what will be one of the highlights of the year – a gala dinner at Drapers’ Hall on Friday 15th November 2019.

This is the second of our biennial London dinners, the first one being the hugely successful and enjoyable event at The House of Commons in November 2017.

Tickets: Tickets for the dinner are £90 per person with OS Under 30 tickets available at £50 each (for a limited number of tickets plus one guest per OS Under 30). Please note that tickets have now sold out for the event.

Guest Speakers

The guest speakers for the evening will be the Flipflopi Project Team, including Co-Founder Ben Morison (S 88-93) and Meteorology and Safety Researcher Jack Wood (P 89-94). Ben and Jack will give a talk on the journey of building and sailing a boat made from single-use plastics and flip-flops which was achieved entirely using plastic materials collected on beaches and roadsides in Kenya. The Project has been highly effective at demonstrating the potential of multi-use plastic and Ben and Jack will discuss their mission to spread the plastic revolution from Africa to the rest of the world.

The first voyage took place in 2016, sailing from Lamu, Kenya, to Cape Town, South Africa, and used over 10 tonnes of plastic waste and 30,000 re-purposed flip flops. With the ambition of spreading their message across the continent and beyond, other recent expeditions this year ranged from locations such as Lamu to Zanzibar and Mombasa to Nairobi, with a voyage across Lake Victoria set for next year to highlight the fact that the major source of marine pollution starts upstream. Backed by the UNEP Clean Seas Initiative, the Flipflopi Project is an excellent example of what individuals can do to make a positive impact on the environment and Ben and Jack are sure to give a very interesting talk on a highly topical issue.



The Drapers’ Company is a Livery Company in the City of London. The Company’s roots go back to the 13th century, when as its name indicates, it was involved in the drapery trade. While it is no longer involved in the trade, the Company has evolved acquiring a new relevance. Its main role today is to be the trustee of the charitable trusts that have been left in its care over the centuries. The Company’s involvement in the drapery trade started to reduce in the 17th century when the trade moved out of the City of London and livery companies’ powers of regulation declined. However, more recently, links with the cloth industry have been re-established by the foundation of exhibitions, postgraduate and teaching awards and sponsorship in the field of textile design, conservation and technology. The current Drapers’ Hall on the present site in Throgmorton Street was bought in 1543 from King Henry VIII for £1,200 (about £350,000 in today’s money).

We will be hosting be a drinks reception in the Court Dining Room & Drawing Room, followed by a 3-course dinner in the Livery Hall.

The OS Club and Foundation are subsidising the cost of this event and hope that our friends and supporters will take this opportunity to join us for a great evening.


Sponsorship Opportunity

We are offering OS, Parents and Friends the opportunity to sponsor the drinks reception, the starter, the main course and/or the dessert for a cost of £500 per course or you could sponsor the whole event for £1500.

£500 sponsors will have a half page colour advert in the commemorative dinner programme given to all 276 guests on the night. The £1500 sponsor will have a full page colour advert on the inside cover of the programme and 2 free tickets to a Foundation or OS Club event of their choice in 2020. All sponsors will be mentioned in the Foundation and OS Club e-newsletters that go out to around 3,500 people.
