Next year Casterton School celebrates its 200th anniversary. From its humble beginnings in Cowan Bridge as a clergy daughters’ school, Casterton School became a forward-thinking institution which championed the rights of women and the value of a stimulating, varied and academically rich curriculum for girls.
On June 24th and 25th Old Castertonians are warmly invited to join staff, current pupils and members of the Casterton School community in a celebration of the history and achievements of Casterton School. The weekend will include:
- Afternoon tea
- Tours of school
- Casterton Old Girls Sports Day
- Gala dinner
- Founders Day Service of Thanksgiving
- Historic walk from Cowan Bridge to Tunstall church (recreating the weekly walk undertaken by the earliest pupils, including Charlotte and Emily Brontë)
Many Sedberghians have close links with former pupils of Casterton school through sisters, mothers, aunts and friends who attended Castertonian school, as well as the many happy marriages forged between former Casterton girls and Sedbergh boys. Please pass details of the events and booking information on to your Old Castertonian friends, relations and spouses(!) who may be interested to attend.
Tickets for the Casterton 200th anniversary events go on general sale on Friday 2nd December. Those who have registered their interest will have the opportunity to book tickets during the 48 hours before tickets go on general sale.
