The Foundation

The Sedbergh School Foundation was established in 2001 to provide independent financial support for the School, and has raised over £10m during this time.

Thanks to contributions from alumni, parents, friends of the School, grant-making bodies and charitable trusts, it has helped the School to realise transformational major projects and supported many other academic and sporting initiatives.

Please take a moment to look at our pages on the menu above to see some of the work we do for Sedbergh, its pupils and broader community through our recently completed and ongoing projects!

The Foundation is a separate charity (1176189), run by its own board of Trustees, many of whom are also Governors of the School and all of whom have the core values of Sedbergh School at the heart of their work. Director of Alumni Relations and Fundraising, Jan van der Velde, joined in 2023 and is supported by a small team of staff and volunteers who manage and run the various appeals and projects which facilitate the School's Vision.

You can find out who sits on our Board of Trustees. Ian Durrans (SH 71-76) is the current Chairman. If you are interested in discussing the possibility of becoming a Trustee, please contact Jan van der Velde on jcv@sedberghschool.org.

If you no longer wish to be contacted by us, or wish to alter the way your data is held and used, please email foundation@sedberghschool.org.

How you can support our work

The Foundation is grateful for support for both specific Appeals as well as for ‘unrestricted’ donations which can be particularly valuable as they allow the Foundation to direct contributions to the area of greatest need at any one time.

Donations can be made via our secure online donation form below as one off or regular monthly, quarterly or annual gifts. Gifts by cheque, credit card and BACS transfer can also be made by downloading our Donation Form. Other options include the donation of shares or other assets and payroll giving. A gift to the Foundation can also be included in the text of a will or as a simple codicil. Many supporters have chosen this route and have become members of our growing 1525 Society.

Further information about this option is available here.

To make a donation by cheque, credit card or BACS download a donation form here.

In all cases please state the Fund to which you wish to contribute and note that. If you are eligible for Gift Aid, by signing the Gift Aid declaration you will add 25% to the value of your donation.
