Important Information Regarding The Sedbergh School 2020 Remembrance Service

Remembrance Service, Sunday 8th November

Remembrance Sunday is an important national event which commemorates those who gave their lives in service to others, it is also a special event in the Sedbergh School calendar and has been well attended for many years.

The Government has recently issued guidance for this year’s services and has authorised outdoor events where representatives participate in wreath laying and a limited amount of singing may take place. Congregations must be appropriately socially distanced and organisers must assess and manage the risks presented.

We have considered the importance of the event and the risks presented and having done so we will be holding a modified version of our Remembrance Service on Sunday 8th November. In order to manage the obvious risks and meet Government guidelines the Service will be moved to below the Cloisters where there is space for pupils and staff to stand in socially distanced bubbles. All those present will wear face masks unless they are speaking or during the singing of the National Anthem.
Alongside the importance of the event in commemorating those who have fallen in war, we also see this as an important moment when the School acknowledges all those who are currently making sacrifices in the fight against Covid-19.

Alongside pupils, all employees of Sedbergh School and Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School are authorised by government guidelines to attend if they wish to do so. If that is the case, please advise Lotte Tulloch by email by 1:00pm on Saturday in order that we can plan where you will stand (let@sedberghschool.org). The Service will start at 10:45, please arrive at Powell Hall entrance by 10:30 and await instructions where to stand; please be dressed for the weather.

Government guidelines require that organisers do not open Services to the public. We know this will be disappointing to parents, Old Sedberghians and members of the community who wish to attend and are sorry you cannot join us. Service updates will be able to keep abreast of the service by following our Twitter feed (click here).

In the event that you have any questions about these arrangements, please contact Lotte Tulloch (let@sederghschool.org).
