In the coming months, we will be raising funds with Parents and also our Alumni Community via the School Foundation led by Foundation Director Isabella Bennett.

This will include our Fundraising Dinner and Auction on the 30th November as well as a player-led challenge in 2020 in the run up to the tour. Ahead of the Dinner, all parents will have a chance to participate in an online auction.

Each year the school undertakes a significant international sports tour. In 2019 the girls’ netball team completed a very successful tour of Australian Schools and the last rugby tour was to New Zealand. On both occasions they raised impressive monies for charity.

In July 2020, we are undertaking a rugby tour of South Africa. One objective is to raise significant funds for an amazing charity in SA that provides sporting scholarships and pathways for the most disadvantaged children, some of whom we will be playing on tour.

Forty five players will go to South Africa which will include a current 1st XV and an U17 development team. The 1st XV will play against some of the best South African School 1st XV’s in the country.

There are two clear objectives for this tour;

Firstly, to challenge the players on the field with some outstanding rugby, but to also give our pupils an amazing experience off the field in what is an amazing country. This is a potential once in a lifetime opportunity for our players, so we want to fully immerse them into the SA culture.

Secondly, each tour has a charity element, but we have significantly increased the focus on charitable fundraising this year due to the nature of need in SA and because we think it gives the boy’s a greater awareness of the importance of giving back.

Our chosen South African charity is Connect Sports Academy founded in 2014 in the township of Khayelistsha, Cape Town.

Their mission is to provide routes into the professional rugby industry for disadvantaged young people in South Africa, using the principles of high performance to create consistent access to quality resources and opportunities.

They are building a caring yet challenging developmental environment, working holistically and individually with athletes to unlock their full potential, on and off the sports field. This includes girls as much as boys.

Kind regards,

Simon Mulholland
Director of Rugby
