Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School are seeking an approachable, warm and adaptable person to join their busy Learning Support Department as Apprentice Teaching Assistant.  

The Apprentice Teaching Assistant (ATA) will support the teaching and learning throughout the Prep School, based in the classroom and working in partnership with teaching staff. The precise profile of age groups and subjects is dependent on the timetable and pupil roll.

The role is required for September 2021.

Sedbergh School and Sedbergh Casterton Prep School are seeking a highly professional, motivated and positive person to join their busy HR team as HR Manager.  

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR Manager, who enjoys working in a generalist role within a varied environment. The key purpose of the role will be to provide an outstanding generalist HR service to the School and its commercial ventures, to ensure the smooth operational running of the Sedbergh School group. 

Working closely with the Headmasters of the Prep & Senior Schools, and the COO, the role of HR Manager is truly at the core or Sedbergh School. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a small but highly dedicated HR team of 3, whilst also playing an integral part within the schools Operational Leadership Team.  

The successful candidate will have: 

  • At least two years’ experience as an HR Manager (those with additional experience in a Senior HR Advisor or an operationally focused Business Partner role may also be considered). 
  • Demonstrable, in depth experience of successfully managing a wide-ranging case load of ER matters.  
  • Proven ability in implementing and maintaining a wide range of compliance policies and procedures.  
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.   
  • Demonstrable ability to write high quality letters, policies and procedures on a day-to-day basis.   
  • The ability to produce accurate information consistently.  
  • Experience of using a range of HR software programs.  
  • A high level of IT literacy, inc. Microsoft teams and Office 365.  
  • In depth employment law and HR procedural knowledge and demonstrable experience of applying that knowledge to diverse and complex ER matters.  
  • The ability to build effective relationships at all levels.  
  • Proven ability to provide credible, concise and results focused HR advice to Line Managers.  
  • Resilience and the ability to self-manage. 
  • Fully CIPD qualified or a suitable HR Degree. 
  • Experience either within education or another highly regulated industry would be advantageous.

Sedbergh School is seeking to appoint a House Chef to join the Catering Department.

Reporting to and working with the Executive Chef Manager, the successful candidate is expected to have experience as a Head Chef or Chef de Partie looking to head his/her first kitchen.

The successful candidate will lead dedicated teams in their own Boarding House kitchens to provide varied and healthy meals for our pupils.  They will also contribute to catering for the Schools’ extensive calendar of annual events.

Responsibilities

The House Chef will lead a team to deliver food and service that is of a high standard, whilst working within a budget.

Key aspects of the role

  • Deliver high standards of cooking and presentation.
  • Give an excellent customer service experience at all times, to pupils, staff and guests.
  • Manage the performance of staff, in line with company policies and procedures.

SCHOOL DRIVER

In this position, you will pick up and drop off children along a predetermined route and maintain a safe and friendly atmosphere for all children in your care.

You will ensure our School vehicles are well-maintained, fuelled, cleaned and checked. You will have experience in dealing with children and it is essential that you have a full, clean driving licence with D1 status.

Reporting to and working with the Bursar (Operations), the successful candidate is expected to have previous cleaning and supervisory experience, with an ability to motivate staff.

The successful candidate will supervise cleaning staff on a day-to-day basis, ensuring duties are carried out in an effective and efficient way to meet required standards.

Responsibilities

The Cleaning Supervisor will lead a team to deliver first class cleaning whilst being hands on within his/her team.

Sedbergh is running its own Initial Teacher Training Programme linked with The University of Buckingham from September 2020. This will be school based training at Sedbergh Senior School or Casterton, Sedbergh Prep school to gain qualified teacher status in conjunction with an online training course with the University of Buckingham (plus two residentials). I changed from Chartered Surveying to teaching at the age of 40, so its never too late!

Have you ever thought of changing career and making a difference?

In September 2020 we are starting an initial teacher training scheme at Sedbergh in conjunction with The University of Buckingham. It is school based with online training and takes 10 months. The post is on a salary with free accommodation, free meals during term time and you will have the help of experienced professional and subject mentors to support you throughout the year.
