The successful applicants will enjoy the chance to shape our enthusiastic young musicians, in a school with a strong musical heritage. A recognised Music degree and high level of musicianship (particularly piano) is required for the post.

Sedbergh is very much accustomed to the training and induction of young staff, with a team of GRAs on both sites, and the successful candidates will be carefully guided through their time here. Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School is situated in a spectacular rural location in the Lune Valley, an ideal place for living out the ethos of allowing children to be children. We strive to realise the potential in all of our pupils, from the classroom to the stage, or to the sports pitch.

We are now seeking a full time Head of Music, commencing in September 2021. The successful candidate will support the Director of Music in the running of the Music Department in the Prep School.

Music has a central role here at Sedbergh. More than half of the pupils across all age ranges are involved in the extensive co-curricular output, be it through 1:1 lessons, or as a member of our choirs and ensembles. The department is housed in a separate building at the heart of the Prep School campus, and the School makes much use of the local church for concerts and chapel services, situated at the very foot of the school grounds.

Our ideal candidate will be a skilled musician, resourceful, highly motivated and hard-working. They will be expected to contribute to the extensive extra-curricular programme of music, including leading choirs and arranging concerts.

Interested in a career change?

Sedbergh is running its own Initial Teacher Training Programme linked with The University of Buckingham from September 2020. This will be school based training at Sedbergh Senior School or Casterton, Sedbergh Prep school to gain qualified teacher status in conjunction with an online training course with the University of Buckingham (plus two residentials). I changed from Chartered Surveying to teaching at the age of 40, so its never too late!

Have you ever thought of changing career and making a difference?

In September 2020 we are starting an initial teacher training scheme at Sedbergh in conjunction with The University of Buckingham. It is school based with online training and takes 10 months. The post is on a salary with free accommodation, free meals during term time and you will have the help of experienced professional and subject mentors to support you throughout the year.
