NAOMI COX

I am sorry to write with sad and shocking news.

Early in the evening of 11th December, our School Librarian, Naomi Cox, was found collapsed at the entrance of the School Library. The School Doctor and ambulance were called and medics tried to resuscitate her but without success. She is likely to have died from natural causes. The incident happened when the pupils were all on House outings so that no pupil was directly involved.

Naomi joined Sedbergh as Librarian in September 2010 but her association with the School extended back to the mid-seventies when her husband Deryck became Director of Music, and who continued as Chapel Organist after retirement in 1983. Their children, Matt, Gemma and Amelia grew up in Guldrey Lodge in Sedbergh.

We loved Naomi who offered a warm welcome to everyone who visited the Library. She was passionate about children, books and reading; always ready to source an interesting title or help a pupil who needed a reading list. Her commitment extended to the many events which took place in the Library and no matter what time of day or night, she would be in attendance at Academic Challenge, the School of Athens or the Brantwood Society. We could not have asked for a warmer, kinder colleague nor a better Librarian.

Naomi’s family are all together at home and we are in close contact with them. When the arrangements for Naomi’s Funeral are clear we will post them here.

I know you will join us in holding them in our prayers in the days and months ahead.
