It’s been quite a month for Old Sedberghians being called up for international duty across the sporting spectrum. England U20s Rugby

Congratulations to fresh alumni Cameron Redpath (S 16-18) and Bevan Rodd (E 11-18) of the Sale Sharks, and Josh Hodge (P 10-18) of the Newcastle Falcons, who were all named in the initial 45 man training squad for England U20’s. The camp took place at Loughborough University from Friday 30 November to Sunday 2 December 2018. Coaches assessed players ahead of the U20 Elite Player Squad (EPS) selection in January for the 2019 U20s Six Nations as well as the World Rugby U20 Championship in May/June. England U18s Rugby

A number of Sedbergh pupils have also been called up for international duty in the U18s. Tom Curtis (S), Will Haydon-Wood (P) and Harry Hill (S) were all invited to the England under-18 training camp in Bristol during the half-term last month. Sedbergh director of rugby Simon Mulholland said all three students had started the season strongly and were in great form. “At Sedbergh we have a long and proud history of producing schoolboy rugby internationals and I am very proud of these young men. They are all gifted players who thoroughly deserve the opportunity to represent their country,” he said. “A strong work ethic and high skill set are qualities that Sedbergh rugby players are known for and it is great to see them being rewarded with their inclusion in an England camp.” The full article from the Westmorland Gazette can be read here.
Other pupils have also been called up to represent further afield. Michael Cooke (SH) was recently part of an Ireland under-18 side that beat their Italian counterparts 31-12 in Treviso, while Diego Warnken (H) represented Chile at the South American under-18 Sevens tournament.

Foster

Rugby 7s

Well done to Henry Foster (W 16-18) who recently made his debut appearance for the Central Washington Wildcats in the Stars Rugby7s. Having landed a sports scholarship with First Point USA, Henry played his first full 80 minutes as a freshman and contributed to a resounding 52-7 win. Moving across the world to continue his studies and pursue a sport was a big decision and in a recent interview with First Point USA Henry explained why this was the right move for him: “I believe that there is a lot more opportunity to excel in the States, and it’s also a place, I believe, I will be able to better myself as a student. I will be in a completely different working environment to that which I am used to and therefore, I will be able to make the most of it – let alone to mention the huge variety of facilities that will be available to me.” The full interview can be read here.

Shooting: Young Guns to Represent GB

A big congratulations to Max Pybus (P) and OS Charlie Cowen (H 12-17) who have been named in their respective Great Britain rifle squads.
