The Gallipoli Campaign Tour: – Monday 26 October – Friday 30 October 2015
Dear Old Sedberghian,
After the highly successful tour to Mons in August, next year’s Pilgrimage focus shifts to the Dardanelles where, 100 years ago, 59 Old Sedberghians served, and 27 still remain – an astonishing proportion even by the standards of that war, and far surpassing the casualty rate on the Western Front. Yet this ill-fated campaign lasted barely 10 months, from April 1915 – January 1916, generating half a million casualties.
We have teamed up with The Cultural Experience who are recognised as being one of the market leaders in the provision of high quality, expert led military history tours with considerable expertise in organising bespoke battlefield and cultural tours for individuals and groups all over the world. We have incorporated a number of interesting variants to the normal Gallipoli tours, which includes being comfortably based in the attractive merchant city of Canakkale on the Asian side overlooking the narrowest crossing point of the Dardanelles, visit to Troy, and highly attractive extension options in Istanbul. The dates have been expressly chosen to fit in with the School Half Term, the gentler early autumn climate, avoidance of the Centenary of the landings, OS Weekend and the Rugby World Cup (the week falls exactly between the semi-finals and final!) – in no particular order of priority!
The itinerary has been designed to ensure that as well as gaining an overall appreciation of the campaign, all the sites relevant to the sacrifices made by former Sedberghians will be visited, for which researches are still ongoing. Please refer to the detailed Programme and Historical perspective provided by The Cultural Experience which is attached or follows. This is included separately with this communication and provides much greater detail.
The following are included in the price:
– Return economy flights with British Airways from London Heathrow to Istanbul
– 4 night’s bed and buffet breakfast in the four-star Hotel Truva, Canakkale
– 2 three course meals served with wine, water and tea/coffee
