Jessica Hurst (L 04-10) will be performing at the Sedbergh Music Festival with her friends from the UK’s leading conservatoires on the 29th May at St Andrew’s Church at 7:30pm. Jessica is a soprano in her fourth year of study at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under tutelage of Mezzo-Soprano, Clare Shearer, studying for a BMus (Hons). In September, Jessica will begin her Masters at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She is kindly supported by the RCS Trust Scholarship.
She has recently been awarded the ABRSM Postgraduate Scholarship. This award covers full tuition fees for each year of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland programme and is awarded to outstanding students studying at the five Royal Conservatoires in the UK.
Operatic engagements include: Gretel, Hänsel und Gretel, directed by David Gately and conducted by Maestro David Jackson of The Metropolitan Opera and First Witch, Dido and Aeneas directed by David Gately and conducted by Tim Ribchester (Trentino Music Festival); The Spirit, Dido and Aeneas, (The Opera Project, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) conducted by Timothy Dean.
Jessica has performed in several masterclasses, including for Meribeth Bunch-Dayme and Catherine Wyn-Rogers and has also sung the soprano solo in Vivaldi’s Gloria and Mozart’s Requiem conducted by Jeremy Jackson, Director of The English Baroque Choir.
She was educated at Sedbergh School where she developed a passion for singing and was awarded The Renfree Martin Prize for Singing. Jessica performed Maria in Sedbergh School’s production of West Side Story. She has sung with the Encore Opera Group, which tours South Cumbria and has studied Italian in Florence, Italy. She has also completed the Abingdon Summer School for solo singer’s course twice.
Other engagements include: Operatic and Classical recitals for charities such as Hospice at Home and The Sunbeams Music Trust. Jessica is part of a duo that performs for corporate events in and around the Lake District. The duo have performed for many birthday and anniversary parties.
