OS TRIANGULAR GOLF MATCH REPORT

In fine spring weather, the 2021 OS golf calendar opened up on 24th April with the annual OSGS triangular golf match with Old Lorettonians (OLs) and Old Alleynians (OAs) at the lovely New Zealand Golf Club in Surrey. Teams of four pairs played foursome matches for the Lorwich Shield, amongst the intricacies of handicap calculations under the new WHS handicapping system.  The OLs and OAs both sported a good number of low handicap players but all matches were tight and, in a close overall result, Old Alleynians prevailed with 2.5 points, followed by OSs with 2 points and Old Lorettonians on 1.5 points.  NZGC laid on a lunch on the terrace which was enjoyed by all before the players returned to the course for 12 holes of relaxed golf after lunch.

Captain Richard Watherston (S 63-67) described his match, with partner Simon Daniels (E 72-77), as “just a pity that neither of us excelled in the morning losing 2 golf balls, hitting several trees and playing the wrong golf ball from the heather!”.  Thanks also go to the rest of the OS contingent of John Coutts (P 65-70), Jamie Edgar (P 75-80), George Hamer (H 62-67), Miles Moffat (E 57-62), Nigel Rich (L 58-63) and John Rink (L 60-65)

We look forward to renewing rivalries and friendships at New Zealand again next spring after, hopefully, enjoying a summer of golf this year.
