OS WEEKEND 19TH/20TH SEPTEMBER 2015

It was great to see so many Old Sedberghians returning once again to Sedbergh for OS weekend. Every OS weekend has its own charm and character and this year we were blessed with many former rugby players of the 60’s when our former Club President, Neil McKerrow was Captain of the Sedbergh School Football Club. The evening ended with a rendition of three school songs, one of which was the School Rugby Song. It is not a song that has been heard for some time and we were most fortunate that the School Male Voice Choir led the singing under the guidance of Chris Allington. The other two songs, ‘The Long Run’ and ‘Winder’, were more familiar to the assembled crowd and were sung with great gusto.

Sadly though, for me, it was a time for reflection as Neil McKerrow ended his tenure as President of the Club and John Morris stepped down as Treasurer after ten years service. Likewise Nigel Horsfall has decided that with his 70th year approaching it is time that he also stood down as Secretary of the Club which he will be doing during the course of this year.

The Club is therefore experiencing a period of change and we are welcoming new officers to lead the Club over the next few years. His Honour John Woolford becomes President of the Club for the next two years. David Calvert, known to many because of his work in the School Bursary replaces John Morris as Treasurer. Lastly, Ben Collins, ex Powell House and a former ten mile winner joins us as Alumni Relations Officer, a position designed to assist in the implementation of the Club’s strategic plans going forward. A warm welcome to these new officers of the Club.
