REVIEW OF THE OS ANNUAL NEWSLETTER

This is the time of year when the postman comes struggling up the drive armed with a large compendium, and thereafter spends ten minutes or so trying to post it through the letter box. Exhausted, he rings the door bell and you are handed the annual Old Sedberghian Newsletter.

The Newsletter started out some years ago as a double sided piece of A4, and during Nigel Horsfall’s tenure as Club Secretary it grew into a comprehensive annual. But times have changed and as a Club we must keep pace. The rise of the internet means that we send out a monthly E-newsletter. It allows us to send out news that is current, it is more accessible in electronic form, and we can honour those that have passed away in a more relevant timescale rather than waiting for up to a year to write an obituary. It has proved very popular.

The costs for the annual newsletter are becoming substantial. The price of print, together with postage comes to circa £13,000. It is an issue that has been raised at the last two AGMs. As a Club we have limited resources and therefore I, along with the Committee, have taken the decision to focus our financial resources elsewhere to ensure that the Club continues to stay modern and relevant to its members. If you would like to read the clubs strategic development plan please click here to download it.

Therefore this year we will not be printing a newsletter. I know for some of you this will come as a disappointment, and some of you may not have access to the internet. However I am quite happy to post copies of the E-newsletter to those that require it or feel free to download all of 2015’s E-newsletters by clicking here.

The Club also has a limited supply of the new 2015 Sedberghian magazines. I am happy to send them out free of charge while stocks last. Please contact Ben Collins at the Club Office (015396 21290, bpc@sedberghschool.org) if you require either of these services.

Best wishes

Jan
