Sam Farrar (SH 9-14) To Run Chester Marathon for Motor Neurone Disease Charity

This Sunday 3rd October, Sam Farrar will be running the Chester Marathon to raise money for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation in support of Motor Neurone Disease research. Throughout a turbulent and lockdown filled 2020 and 2021, Sam says he was running more miles than ever and in a wave of inspiration, he decided to put it to good use.

Sam says, “I have chosen to fundraise for MND due to it affecting so many people from every walk of life and having not yet found a cure. I also felt that the charity encompassed my own personal passions due to its rugby links. Sedbergh was a huge part of my rugby career and developing these passions.”

“The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation key goals aims to provide investment in key research for MND patients and also crucial support for MND patients. I wanted to do a small amount to help with this. In January 2021 I fundraised for Doddie Aid which was a mass participation event to run (in my case) as far as possible, raising money for Doddie, and with the marathon I wanted to take the effort one step further.”

Through the challenge, Sam hopes to spread awareness of the charity, raise funds for this important cause and hopefully inspire others to take on challenges themselves to support worthy causes.

“I am currently 6 weeks away from the marathon and training is tough but going well. Having just completed my longest run yet of 26km. If people would like further information this can be found on my JustGiving page too.”
