Sedberghmusicfestival

The 2018 Sedbergh Music Festival offers an enticing mix of high octane international and local talents with music ranging from the exotic and authentically medieval to both modern folk and exuberant brass band via string quartets, traditional and wonderfully eccentric singing groups and aspiring young soloists.

The Music Festival takes place in a beautiful Yorkshire Dales market town noted for its warm welcome and spectacular scenery, and all this a mere handful of miles off the M6.

Most concerts take place in the lovely St Andrew’s Church, whose earliest foundations date back to 1130. The church is in the very centre of the town with convenient nearby parking.

Topping the bill are:

  • An unmissable recital by world famous violin and piano duo Tasmin Little and Martin Roscoe, who prompted rapturous ovations at the 2016 festival.
  • Red Priest, the virtuoso baroque music band, brainchild of recorder wizard Piers Adams with their huge following.
  • A Fistful of Spookies, zany, big fun and utterly inimitable male voice ensemble. The Spooky Men have been very popular at some of our previous festivals where they performed to packed houses.
  • Welsh modern folk band Jamie Smith’s Mabon.
  • The Sterling Trio.
  • The Kentdale Wind Quintet.
  • Castalia String Quartet.
  • Levens Choir.
  • Sedbergh’s own admired orchestra.
  • The local Sedbergh Town Brass Band.
  • Local medieval band Cornucopia with a multi-media presentation of the legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
  • Sarah Beth Briggs, piano.
  • A performance of the joyous Vivaldi Gloria by our very own Festival Chorus

Excellent pre-concert meals will be available before selected evening performances, and buffet lunches to accompany selected lunchtime events.

There will be lunchtime concerts featuring ensembles drawn from all over the county and beyond, including:

  • The awesomely talented young musicians of the world famous Chetham’s Hospital Music School.
  • Penrith cellist Joe Davies, currently conducting in Oxford, plays the Bach Cello Suites.
  • The return of the harp duo, AnnaKate and Gwen.
  • Peter Noke’s organ recital.
  • Other talented artistes, and children from the Pepperpot Club.

We would like to acknowledge the help and support of the many bookshops, businesses, organisations, hotels & B&Bs, schools, venues and tourist attractions which have supported the Festival so positively. Also grateful thanks to all the Information Office staff, volunteer staff and other dedicated individuals who have shown such allegiance to the project.
