Sedbergh’s Strategic Plan

Dear Parents, Colleagues and Old Sedberghians

Sedbergh’s Strategic Plan

We are pleased to bring you the School’s Strategic Development Plan which sets out the direction of development for Sedbergh School, Casterton Sedbergh Prep School and associated organisations for the period 2019-2025.

This document represents a distillation of the Plan which has been assembled through analysis of our core values, our Schools’ strengths and weaknesses and third-party surveys of our market and its ambitions, attitudes and constraints. We have consulted organisations which represent independent education and assessed our competitors’ provision and development plans. This analysis has been discussed with the full Board of Governors and further refined by a designated working party. The Plan has been costed and subsequently stress tested.

At its heart lie constant developments in the quality of education, Boarding provision and the welfare of our pupils and all staff. We have no doubt that this is in the best interests of our Schools and pupils, and that you would expect nothing less. However, we will also be working to dramatically cut our carbon footprint as part of all refurbishment and development projects.

None of this will happen without the full support of our community. This Plan has been created against a backdrop of national uncertainty, but within School a climate of great optimism and excitement as we approach our 500th anniversary in 2025 and the bicentenary of the foundation of Casterton School in 2023. We hope that our whole community will wish to celebrate these extraordinary milestones.

We will report progress against this Plan to the whole Sedbergh community on an annual basis from September 2021.

We hope that you will find much that is exciting in this short synopsis. As ever, if you wish to discuss any aspect of its contents we will be delighted to do so; please contact Andrew Fleck’s PA, Amanda Dearden, at Sedbergh School.

With best wishes.

Yours sincerely

Hugh Blair, Chairman of Governors

Andrew Fleck, Principal
