The 1st XV have won the SOCS Daily Mail Trophy for the second year running with another outstanding, unbeaten season. The triumphant squad completed a second successive undefeated campaign by overcoming an inspired Llandovery College 12-7 in the wind and the rain last weekend in Wales.
It extends Sedbergh’s winning streak to 37 games in all competitions, with their one and only defeat in the last three years coming in 2016.

‘I’m very proud of the whole squad,’ commented head coach Simon Mulholland. ‘They work very hard especially our pack who include six boys who are in the lower sixth. They will be back next year.’

The brilliant kicking of captain Tom Curtis (S), the goal-kicking fly half, has been a feature of the success this season, including a last-minute touchline conversion to finish off a terrific comeback to beat Wellington, the former triple Trophy champions, 17-15. A full review of that earlier game can be read here.

Curtis is now following in the footsteps at the Sale Sharks Academy of Cameron Redpath (S 16-18) who guided last year’s unbeaten Sedbergh team. The consistency of Sedbergh has been the outstanding feature this autumn, leaving behind their usual rivals in the 106-strong competition.

A gritty 8-6 victory against Millfield College at home last week in their final match of the competition saw the squad victorious in all 13 of their fixtures- the most played by any team- while also marking the first time in the competition that a school has won back to back titles without a single loss.
Congratulations, boys, on a truly remarkable achievement!
