THE DUKE OF YORK VISITS RONG QIAO SEDBERGH SCHOOL

HRH The Duke of York recently visited Rong Qiao Sedbergh School whilst undertaking a nine-day visit to China.

The royal visit encompassed His Royal Highness’s three core areas of focus; Education and skills, entrepreneurship and science, technology and engineering.

The Duke of York received a warm welcome from Kindergarten pupils who lined up passionately waving flags of both China and United Kingdom. Following his welcome to the school, The Duke of York then spent time meeting pupils at the school and learning more about Rong Qiao Sedbergh School.

Guided by the School’s senior management, the royal guest toured the campus and was very impressed by the facilities built in such a short period of time.The school tour finished in the lecture theatre where students, parents, staff and visitors were waiting to welcome the Duke of York. Mr Lin Hongxiu, the President of Rong Qiao Group, firstly welcomed the Duke of York saying “We are very proud to be the first UK-China dual curriculum school in Fujian Province. We hope the students of Rong Qiao Sedbergh School will form a bridge between China and the rest of the World”. The Duke of York responded by encouraging more global exchange and commended Rong Qiao Sedbergh School as an example of the successful partnership between the Great Britain and China in education. He is looking forward to visiting RQSS again in the future to see the development of the School.

To finish his visit, The Duke presented four pupils with their iDEA Bronze and Silver awards.

The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (iDEA) is an international programme aiming to help address the digital skills gap. With its blended learning approach, iDEA aspires to be the digital and enterprise equivalent of the renowned Duke of Edinburgh Award.
