TOMMY MATTHEWS (SH 96-01) TEAMS UP WITH BEAR GRYLLS FOR LIVE FITNESS WORKOUTS
Managing Director and Instructor of Be Military Fit (BMF), Tommy Matthews (SH 96-01), has been conducting online 30-minute total bodyweight training workouts which can be completed at home or outside. He also teamed up with adventurer and television presenter Bear Grylls to transform the outdoor fitness industry in UK and inspire a generation to get outside and be active. Some 60,000 people tuned in to watch Tommy and Bear’s live workout on Bear’s Instagram page.
The BMF Athletic training programmes help sports teams and seasoned athletes prepare both physically and mentally for the rigours of competition. Our scientifically designed programmes and expert coaching will provide a foundation for success, confidence and mental toughness.
Tommy set up the BMF high performance training facility for the coaching of professional and amateur athletes. He currently oversees the training of a national rugby team and coaches the British Hard Enduro champion. In 2017 he coached the Four Oarsmen, including OSs Dicky Taylor and George Biggar, who broke the record for the fastest men to row the Atlantic Ocean and in doing so won the Talisker Atlantic Challenge Race. Although Tommy’s athletic interests are now mainly channelled through others, he still competes in multi-sport races and endurance events. His recent high point was competing in the Multi-Sport World Champs in New Zealand.
Bear Grylls will lead the BMF campaign to get the country active and outdoors, as we expand our military workouts in the UK and introduce a new range of innovative fitness products across the country and in to new territories. Our message is a call to arms for people across UK, from all walks of life and age groups, to embrace our distinctive style of outdoor fitness and group training and get fit for life. “BMF has such a special heritage with military personnel and many veterans, and I’m so proud to co-own BMF and be joining this incredible family,” Bear says on the website.
“I used to train so much with BMF in the days before I joined the Reserve SAS and I will always be grateful for their encouragement and support that helped me achieve my fitness goals.”
“Our goal as a team now is to take this business to the next level and to a whole new generation, including kids and families – knowing that when we train together we train better and more consistently. As Europe’s largest outdoor fitness company, we aim to expand our programmes to a broader market and then take BMF and its values all around the world.”
