welcome from the president
My predecessor John Walford has said that this is a marvellous time to be President of the Old Sedberghian Club. Cooperation between School and Club is stronger than ever; the School is larger in numbers than ever before; its sporting successes place it high in the firmament of independent education and academic prowess continues to flower. The Club itself has great good fortune in the leadership and steadfast commitment of its Chairman, Jan van der Velde and its Alumni Director, Ben Collins, whose skills and enthusiasm propel the Club in its day to day activities. It is therefore a great privilege and honour for me to have been elected to the Presidency of the Old Sedberghian Club and I look forward to the the opportunity presented by the next two years to make my own, inevitably small contribution as figurehead, to the exciting developments and proposed activities of the Club as we all, School and Club, progress towards 2025 and beyond.
Fifty years ago careers advice at Sedbergh consisted of a shelf near what used to be the School Prefects’ room where a few dog-eared pamphlets were to be found from such as the Law Society, the Royal Society of Medicine and the British Army. Now, an important part of the mission of both the School and the Old Sedberghian Club is to provide senior pupils and young OSs with the skills, confidence and connections to progress through this modern minefield.
The Club is here for you, its members. Make your suggestions to the Club about what it might do to foster continuing comradeship between you and your contemporaries and friends. The Club is always willing to help with organisation. Make the most of the events that the Club is already organising. Your Club. Make use of it.
Bob Graham (H 62-67)
President of the OS Club
